Chinese SVOD Tencent Video has picked up preschool series CoComelon from London-based studio Moonbug Entertainment.
The streamer acquired 180 episodes of the 3D-animated educational series in both English and Mandarin. CoComelon uses songs and nursery rhymes to teach kids basic concepts and activities such as getting ready for bed and why they should eat their vegetables.
CoComelon is the latest Moonbug show to join Tencent’s lineup, and it follows the streamer’s acquisition of Go Buster, Playtime with Twinkle, The Sharksons and KiiYii last year.
Acquired by Moonbug in 2020, CoComelon is one of the most in-demand preschool shows in the world right now, according to Parrot Analytics. Its YouTube channel has 117 million subscribers—the second highest base of any channel on the AVOD platform.
Broadcasters and streamers have been clamoring for the musical nursery rhyme brand recently, including Netflix which ordered spinoff CoComelon Lane (24 x seven minutes) and four 60-minute nursery rhyme compilations in July to add to its existing CoComelon content.
