Disney makes magic with Reliance Animation

Action-focused animated series Bhaiyyaji Balwan will premiere in April 2022 across a number of South Asian countries.

Disney has picked up Indian production company Reliance Animation’s original animated series Bhaiyyaji Balwan. The show is set to launch on a Disney network in a number South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countriesĀ in April 2022, including India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Set in Gomtipur, India, Bhaiyyaji Balwan tells the story of a charming and street-smart kid who solves problems for his fellow villagers. In addition to action, the series also features magical elements.

Following the deal with Disney, Reliance Animation is looking for global distribution partners for the 104 x 11-minute series. This effort comes as India continues to be an area of focus for theĀ kids industry. Netflix is expanding its presence in the region with a wholly owned post-production facility in Mumbai, while Cartoon Network India has greenlit several local productions in recent months.
