Bristol-based Aardman is working on a new feature film with director Guridner Chadha (Bend it Like Beckham).
Made for a global family audience, the new animated musical will tell the story of a young elephant from the Indian jungles of Kerala who dreams of becoming a Bollywood dancer. It’s directed by Chadha (pictured right), who is also co-writing the script with Paul Mayeda Berges under their production banner Bend It Networks.
Aardman and Bend It Networks will work with Indian voice talent, musicians and designers on the project, which is in development.
There was no information on a name, format, or release date for the movie at press time.
Aardman has been busy churning out film projects in recent months, including a Chicken Run sequel for Netflix, as well as an original 30-minute musical called Robin Robin. The studio is also working on its first new preschool series in more than a decade, The Very Small Creatures, which is set to premiere on Sky Kids in November.
