Deals of the Week: ABC, Illumination, Moonbug

Karma's World gets a new licensing agent, Minions and Line Friends join forces, and The Wiggles tune up their worldwide distribution deal.

Moonbug

Telecom company Vodafone Italia has just launched five of the prodco’s animated series—CoComelon, Little Baby Bum, Go Buster, Digley and Dazey and ARPO—on its streaming service.

And AVOD platform Future Today has rolled out a free CoComelon channel on VIZIO SmartCast TVs,  featuring animated videos that teach kids about everyday activities and positive behaviors. The CoComelon channel is already available on platforms including Roku and Italian broadcaster Mediaset‘s Infinity VOD platform.

Planeta Junior

The Milan-based company has signed a licensing agreement with 9 Story Media Group and Karma’s World Entertainment to represent upcoming Netflix series Karma’s World (picturedin Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Planeta Junior is initially looking for licensees in fashion, music and dance-focused product categories for the CG-animated series.

Targeted six- to nine-year-olds, Karma’s World stars a young girl and aspiring hip-hop artist who finds her voice and uses it to change the world. Rapper and actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges created the show, which is set to premiere globally on Netflix this fall.

9 Story is steadily executing its CP strategy for the brand. It recently inked deals with Retail Monster for retail-focused sales and marketing initiatives, and also with Mattel for a line of consumer products that will launch in fall 2022.

Line Friends

The same-name company behind this Korean character brand has teamed up with Illumination and Universal Brand Development to launch a new line of Minions-themed consumer products. The Minions x Brown & Friends range—which includes plush, toys and stickers—rolled out on July 22 in the US, Korea, Japan and China through the Line Friends website.

Line Friends already has an agreement with marketing firm Bravado to launch a pop-up store in London, and has also teamed up with Netflix to create an animated series based on the Brown & Friends emojis.

ABC Commercial

ABC Commercial has signed a multi-year deal extending its worldwide distribution rights to all existing and future Wiggles content.

The division of Australia’s public broadcaster will continue to distribute the preschool-skewing musical group’s entire back-catalogue, as well as upcoming content including TV series, videos and music, to international broadcasters and streamers. The partners’ original agreement has been in place since 1991.

Gearing up to celebrate a 30th anniversary this year, The Wiggles are currently working on a series of music videos with Sesame Workshop, as well as a Spanish-language version of the music group to reach new audiences.
