Reed Midem is folding MIPJunior (pictured) into MIPCOM and making changes to the exhibition space at this year’s edition of the Cannes-based TV market, according to festival director Lucy Smith.
Rather than running as a standalone event the weekend before MIPCOM, MIPJunior 2021 will be presented as part of the broader MIPCOM event running from October 11 to 14. And participation in the kid-focused market won’t require additional registration this year. The MIPJunior Screenings Library, meanwhile, will be integrated into the Digital MIPCOM platform.
This change is similar to Reed Midem’s decision to merge MIPJunior and MIPCOM last year, before it eventually announced that the event would be fully virtual.
MIPCOM will also feature a new show floorplan with a streamlined exhibition footprint, and will offer exhibitors the flexibility to change the size of their stands if need be because of these changes.
The physical market will also be supported by a digital extension this year that’s available to both in-person and remote attendees.
For those attending MIPCOM in person, there will be additional COVID-19 protocols in place. Delegates will be required to show a valid “sanitary pass” via the French government’s TousAntiCovid smartphone app that proves they’ve had a COVID-19 vaccination, tested negative less than 48 hours prior to arrival, or have immunity because of a prior COVID-19 infection. Face masks will also be required at the event.
