Archewell Productions—the prodco founded by Meghan Markle The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry—is developing a new animated series for Netflix. Created by Markle for family audiences, Pearl (working title) stars an adventurous 12-year-old girl who is inspired by a variety of influential women from history.
Markle will also executive produce, along with David Furnish (Gnomeo & Juliet), Carolyn Soper (Tangled), Liz Garbus (I’ll Be Gone in the Dark) and Dan Cogan (Icarus). Amanda Rynda (The Louse House) is on board as showrunner and EP. No other details were available at press time.
Pearl is the first animated series from Archewell Productions, which signed a multi-year production deal with Netflix last year. The company’s first project under the agreement is Heart of Invictus, a docuseries in partnership with The Invictus Games Foundation. Markle also wrote a children’s book called The Bench that was published earlier this year.
