Cartoon Network India is set to premiere its first-ever superhero series Ekans—Ek Se Badhkar Snake on June 27.
From Kolkata-based Hi-Tech Animation, the CG-animated series stars a tech-savvy tween with serpent-like powers who works to keep humanity safe.
Ekans—Ek Se Badhkar Snake is uniquely Indian, with a title track that was made in collaboration with several of Bollywood’s most sought-after artists, including singer Kaliash Kher, rapper Parry G, poet and author Gulzar and composer Simaab Sen. Regional folk mythology and high-tech sci-fi are also woven into its episodes.
Cartoon Network India has greenlit several other local original productions recently, including Dabangg for its own lineup, and Titoo, Jawaab Ka Sawaal Hu, Smashing Simmba and Lambu-G Tingu-G for POGO.
The channel joins Cartoon Network Africa in greenlighting a local superhero saga for the first time. CN Africa recently picked up Garbage Boy and Trash Can, based on Ridwan Moshood’s prize-winning short and produced in collaboration with Baboon Animation and African Animation Network.
