New York’s Silvergate Media has picked up TV rights to bilingual book series ¡Vamos! from publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and has plans to develop the IP into an animated kids show.
Written and illustrated by Mexican-American author Raúl the Third (Raúl González) using a mix of English and Spanish, the books celebrate frontera culture at the US-Mexican border in stories about a coyote and his dog.
Published by HMH’s Versify imprint, ¡Vamos! Let’s Go to the Market hit retail in 2019. The World of ¡Vamos! range now includes three early readers and two board books, with another picture book in the pipeline.
González will produce the animated TV series in partnership with Kurt Mueller, EVP of creative content for Silvergate.
Silvergate recently inked new retail deals with Hot Topic and Forbidden Planet for Netflix preschool series Hilda, as well as partnering with Merlin Entertainments to bring its own Octonauts preschool brand to the Chang Feng Ocean World aquarium in Shanghai.
