Disney+ is showcasing fan-fave characters like Gonzo and Pepe the King Prawn (pictured), celebrity cameos and all-new music in Muppets Haunted Mansion. The first-ever Halloween special for the Muppets brand will premiere on the streaming platform this fall.
Disney Parks, Experiences and Products is currently celebrating its “Halfway to Halloween” event, designed to build excitement for upcoming products and help boost traffic to various parks locations during the spooky holiday. The Disney After Hours Boo Bash, for example, will feature performances, dancing and Halloween-themed treats at Magic Kingdom Park from August through October.
Q1 2021 revenue for the parks, experiences and products category declined by 53% to US$3.6 billion, thanks to pandemic-related closures. Revenue for the DTC (direct-to-consumer) category grew by 73% in the same period, however, driven largely by the strong performance of Disney+ and Hulu.
The House of Mouse acquired the Muppets brand in 2004 and added all five seasons of The Muppet Show to Disney+ earlier this year. The SVOD’s Muppets offering also includes spinoffs like Muppets Now and Muppet Treasure Island.
