Longtime animation exec Irene Weibel joined Portfolio Entertainment’s senior creative team as a consultant, and is focused on helping the Canadian prodco expand its slate and build more of a presence in LA.
Reporting to CEO and co-founder Lisa Olfman, Weibel is looking for new opportunities in kids and adult animation, live action and service work. She will also be an executive producer on Portfolio’s next slate of projects.
Prior to taking on this consulting role in January, Weibel co-founded Sutikki (Moon & Me), the kids and family division of animation studio Bento Box Entertainment. After more than three years there, she and fellow co-founder Andrew Kerr left the company last January.
Earlier in her career, Weibel worked at Corus Entertainment as VP and head of studio and VP of international co-productions and development. She also served as VP of international content at Nelvana, where she was an executive producer on Nelvana/Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania: The Series.
Portfolio embarked on its mission to increase its profile in the US market last year when it hired executive director of development Meghan Sheridan as its first LA employee.
