Baby Yoda, Mario win big at the 2021 TOTY Awards

Mattel and LEGO took home the most wins with their products for The Mandalorian and Nintendo toys.

Mattel and LEGO were the biggest winners at the 2021 Toy of The Year Awards, snagging four awards each with products driven by Baby Yoda and Mario.

LEGO’s partnership with Nintendo scored the brickmaker two of its wins, including Collectible of the Year for its LEGO Super Mario Character Packs.

Mattel can thank the pandemic for one of its wins, as the Fisher-Price #ThankYouHeroes line won Best Action Figure. The toyco also snagged an award for its Baby Yoda toy (pictured) based on the Disney+ series The Mandalorian (which, incidentally, won License of the Year).

The Toy Association unveiled its TOTY shortlist in October, and Mattel led with nine nominations, including action toy, construction, doll and preschool products. The Toy Awards are normally presented in person at New York Toy Fair, but the event was cancelled this year due to COVID-19, and the TOTYs were transformed into a digital event.
