Netflix is satisfying its need for speed with animated series Sonic Prime. The streaming giant has partnered with SEGA and WildBrain to launch a new show inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog in 2022.
Featuring 24 episodes aimed at kids ages six to 11, families and long-time fans of the video game character. Sonic Prime will see the titular speed-demon fighting to save a strange new multiverse.
WildBrain is handling animation through its Vancouver studio and will partner with SEGA for production, distribution and licensing. The team behind Man of Action Entertainment is showrunning and executive producing.
The blue blur has been making a big comeback in recent months. His Sonic the Hedgehog feature film bowed in early 2020, just before movie theaters shuttered in response to the pandemic. SEGA and Paramount Pictures have announced that a sequel is in development.
Additionally, Jakks Pacific signed a multi-year global licensing deal with SEGA to manufacture, market and distribute toys inspired by the Sonic brand. The range includes action figures, playsets, plush, collectibles and novelty items.
