MIPTV will be virtual this year, but Reed Midem is planning on a live MIPCOM event in October 2021.
The 58th edition of MIPTV will run April 12 to 16, with details of the all-digital conference expected in the coming weeks.
Reed Midem’s decision to hold MIPTV online is due to the ongoing uncertainty over COVID-19, said the company in a press release, adding that if conditions “improve sufficiently” by early next year, it will look at hosting small in-person screenings in Cannes during MIPTV week.
The 37th edition of MIPCOM, set to take place October 11 to 14, is moving forward as a live event at its long-standing Palais des Festivals venue on the French Riviera, with a digital complement running alongside it.
Reed Midem was one of the first event companies to have to contend with the disruption caused by the international pandemic, with the cancellation of MIPTV in March. Not long after confirming its cancellation, the organizer announced it would launch MIPTV Online+ in place of the physical event.
In late July, the company announced MIPCOM 2020—originally scheduled for October 12 to 15—would encompass both digital and on-the-ground elements in a hybrid program. However, just weeks away from its kick-off date and after several major companies—including Banijay, FremantleMedia and eOne—pulled out of the live event citing safety concerns, Reed Midem moved MIPCOM entirely online.
