London-based distributor Serious Lunch has picked up worldwide distribution rights to Zeilt Productions’ new CG/live-action series Welcome to Earth.

The Luxembourg-based production company recently wrapped the 25 x five-minute comedy  for Luxembourg free-to-air channel RTL. Created by Laurent Witz, it targets kids ages six to nine and follows two aliens sent to Earth to scout a headquarters ahead of a planned invasion; but they soon find that Earth’s culture is weirder than they ever could have imagined. The series is directed by Sarah Sutter and Frédéric Wedeux.

Serious Lunch was drawn to the show’s visual style and the humor, according to CEO Genevieve Dexter. A French version of Welcome to Earth is already complete, and now the distributor is adapting it in English to present during Kidscreen Summit.

CG specialist Zeilt won the Best Animated Short Film Oscar in 2014 for Mr Hublot. It was also part of a group of Luxembourg studios that attended Cartoon Forum in 2019, where it presented a series called Quirkistador. Zeilt recently signed a co-production deal with China’s Tencent Video for Deep in the Bowl as well. Inspired by a French comic books series called Le Fond du Bocal, this show is also a 3D/live-action hybrid, with a planned delivery in 2022.
