Hasbro-owned entertainment studio eOne will develop and produce new film and TV adaptations of the Power Rangers IP. Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This, The End of the F***ing World) has signed on to direct both.
Described as having a “wide appeal,” the projects will skew a bit older than the brand’s traditional kid target demo, according to eOne.
Power Rangers first debuted in 1993 (pictured). Based on the Japanese tonkusatsu franchise Super Sentai, the American entertainment and merchandising brand was acquired from Saban by Hasbro in 2018.
The new projects are a part of a plan for Hasbro and eOne to start a new era together, with eOne leading all content and distribution of the toyco’s brands. The two teams kicked things off with My Little Pony: Pony Life, and they are also looking at ways to refresh the Transformers IP. eOne will continue to manage its own IPs, including Peppa Pig, PJ Masks and Ricky Zoom.
