Barcelona-based Planeta Junior has acquired a stake in Santa Monica’s ZAG Entertainment. Under the deal terms, Planeta Junior will join ZAG’s management board.

In addition to the capital investment, the companies have drafted a European strategic plan that includes a TV and movie content creation agenda and a roadmap for strengthening licensing and merchandising plans in the region.

Planeta Junior and ZAG began working together in 2016 with an agreement that saw Planeta promote and represent ZAG’s flagship series Miraculous – The Adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir across Europe. In 2017, the partnership was expanded with a co-production agreement for five new Zag Heroez series, kicking off with hybrid Power Players on Cartoon Network and Netflix, followed by Ghostforce, which is currently in production for Disney EMEA and Discovery Kids LatAm. The partners also co-produced the Miraculous: The Ladybug Show stage show, which premiered in Madrid in December.

Disney recently picked up two Miraculous TV movies to launch on both its linear channel and SVOD Disney+. The first will premiere in the fall, with the second bowing next spring.
