Netflix has flapped its wings into CAKE and Rovio Entertainment’s nest, and picked up the newest animated series based on the Angry Birds franchise. Angry Birds: Summer Madness will debut in 2021. The series uses the tone and humor from the movie franchise, but with a refreshed visual look.

The 40 x 11-minute series sees the familiar birds, as well as several new characters as tweens at a summer camp as they try out antics and improbable pranks.

This series is the latest in CAKE and Rovio’s long-term partnership. The UK distributor holds the international distribution rights to the Finnish media co’s expanding library of non-dialogue shorts. In 2015, CAKE picked up the distribution rights to three of Rovio’s Angry Birds animated series, and the pair worked together again in 2019 to remake live-action comedy series Angry Birds on the Run into a long-form TV special.

The Angry Birds’ franchise is quite popular on the SVOD and has frequently popped up in Netflix’s new top-10 rankings, which highlights the most watched shows and movies are that day in each country.
