Parisian prodco Cyber Group Studios has partnered with Beijing-based Pacific Media Group to manage and distribute its animated preschool series Gigantosaurus in China, along with related consumer products and marketing.
The show first premiered in China on Alibaba Group’s Youku at the end of December, and has already ranked first in the streamer’s list of popular animated foreign properties. Cyber Group followed that up by securing a deal with Chinese public network CCTV and Gigantosaurus started airing on December 26 five days a week, five episodes per day in Mainland China on CCTV14.
Season one of the show will be available on Disney+ and Netflix later this year, with the second and third season landing on Disney+ afterwards. The first season is also available on Disney Junior,France Télévisions and Super RTL (Germany).
Further brand extensions, including CP and a live tour are expected to reach Chinese consumers in the next few months. Jakks Pacific is the master toy licensee for the brand and has already begun shipping product to Mainland China.
