French free-to-air kids TV channel Gulli has picked up season one and two (for a total of 156 x five minutes) of animated preschool series Kid-E-Cats from Paris distributor APC Kids. Gulli began airing the show on January 6.
Produced by CTC Media and Studio Metrafilms, the show follows three kittens, and a third season is completed. Seasons one and two is the second-best performing preschool series in Russia, according to APC Kids. The first two seasons are also available on Nick Jr. in more than 170 countries, including France.
More recently, APC Kids has sold season one to international broadcasters Timvision (Italy), Ceska Televize (Czech Republic), and season two to TG4 (Ireland) and TV Puls (Poland).
The pickup comes as France’s TV industry continues to see a rise in consolidation. In 2019, French conglom M6 acquired Lagardère Active’s TV business, which included Gulli and pay-TV children’s channels Canal J and Tiji. On top of this, national networks France Télévisions, M6 and TF1 teamed up and won approval from France’s competition watchdog to launch SVOD service Salto in 2020.
