Dutch broadcaster NPO has picked up non-verbal preschool series Allie the Ellie (titled Ellie de Olifant in the Netherlands) for its children’s programming block NPO Zappelin.

Created by Ellen Langendam (Nurdys) and produced through her prodco Art Wise, the animated series will be broadcast in February. The 13 x one-minute episodes in the comedy series follow a curious elephant as she explores the magical world around her.

Allie the Ellie joins the broadcaster’s animal-heavy lineup of shows, which includes Nelvana, TeamTO and LuxAnimation’s Babar and the Adventures of Badou (65 x 12 minutes), Pingu and Attraction Distribution’s The Adventures of Pim and Pom (52 x five minutes). The broadcaster also focused on cuddly creatures in previous acquisitions, including Acamar Films’ animated preschool show Bing and WildBrain’s live-action series Waffle the Wonder Dog.
