Italian animation studio Enanimation (Mini Ninjas) has pre-sold the first season of its new preschool toon Nina & Olga (pictured) to Italian kidscaster and producer Rai Kids (Rai Ragazzi).

Currently in development for a spring 2021 launch, the 52 x seven-minute series for four to six-year-olds is based on the popular book franchise Olga the Cloud by Italian writer and illustrator Nicoletta Costa.

For the series, Enanimation is turning one of the book franchise’s secondary characters, Nina, into a lead and best friend for Olga. The episodes will showcase the pair’s everyday challenges as Olga helps Nina understand and face her feelings.

Enanimation secured the global and multi-platform development rights to the publishing property last September.

Since launching in 1982, Olga the Cloud has amassed more than 80 titles for preschoolers and, according to Enanimation, is particularly successful in China, Russia, Spain and the US.

Enanimation will promote the new series at Kidscreen Summit in Miami next month.
