Disney Channels Latin America has picked up animated preschool series Guitar & Drum.
Produced by Chilean animation studio Punkrobot (Bear Story) and Brazil’s Hype, the 52 x five-minute series tells the story of two friends and the adventures they have with other musical instruments in a small town. Each instrument has a different sound, which is intended to promote diversity, and the episodes will emphasize self-esteem, empathy, friendship and teamwork. It is directed by Punkrobot’s Antonia Herrera and María Elisa Soto-Aguilar, in their directorial debut.
The series is aimed at both boys and girls ages three to six. Its premiere date, as well as which Disney Channel the show will air on, has yet to be announced.
Disney LatAm recently announced a massive restructuring of its senior leadership, consolidating the direct-to-consumer operations in the region by promoting ex-ESPN exec Guillermo Tabanera to GM in the wake of the Fox acquisition. In his new role, Tabanera heads up affiliate sales for Disney channels across family & kids, as well as general entertainment and sports.
