Michael Carrington named ABC content director

The longtime kids exec will lead the Aussie broadcaster's entertainment & specialist content division, overseeing children's—among other teams.

Aussie broadcaster ABC has appointed Michael Carrington as its new director of the entertainment & specialist content division, which includes drama, comedy, Indigenous, music, children’s, entertainment and factual across TV, national radio nets and its digital service iview. His role also features the specialist genres of arts, science, education, religion & ethics, and society & culture.

Carrington has had a 30-year career in content development and broadcasting, most of it in kids. He’s been at ABC since 2016, first as head of children’s and education and then head of content distribution. Libbie Doherty recently took over his role as head of children’s production at ABC.

Before ABC, he was the CEO of Banjay Group’s Zodiak Kids Studios. He has also served as the VP and global head of content for Mattel’s HIT Entertainment and chief content officer for Cartoon Network & Boomerang over the years.
