London-based Silvergate Media isn’t monkeying around. The producer/distributor has signed a deal with China’s Wanda Kidsland to manage Silvergate’s animated TV series Monkey with a Tool Belt, in China. Under the partnership, Wanda Kidsland will bring the brand into the region and manage TV distribution, tie-in publishing, CP and live-attractions for the series.

A 40 x 11-minute series targeting three- to six-year olds, Monkey with a Tool Belt is a action/comedy that revolves around the adventures of a handy monkey and his engineering crew as they fix mechanical problems in their city. Based on a book series of the same name by American writer and illustrator Chris Monroe, the construction-focused series was commissioned by Netflix in February 2018 (with no launch date scheduled yet).

Produced by Silvergate Media’s EVP of creative Kurt Mueller, Bob Boyle, Gabe Pulliman, Stephanie Simpson and Michael Goldberg, the STEM aspects of the series will appeal to a growing appetite in China for educational content, according to the two companies, in a statement. The pair had previously partnered to bring Silvergate Media’s Peter Rabbit brand in China in 2018, and Silvergate has been using these partnerships to build on its ongoing efforts to grow its business in the region.
