Genius Brands International

Genius Brands International is sending its animated preschool series Rainbow Rangers to Latin America on Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr. channel and mobile streaming app Noggin. Launching first on Noggin in June, followed by Nick Jr. in August, the 52 x 11-minute first season will be dubbed in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

Targeted at two- to 11-year-olds, the rescue-based series is produced by Beverly Hills-based Genius Brands and follows seven girls who are Earth’s first responders. It was picked up by France’s APC Kids in early 2018 for distribution in EMEA. Nick greenlit a second season earlier this month.

In other Nick news, Viacom International Media Networks launched its streaming service Nick+ on Greece’s pay TV platform Cosmote TV. Nick+ has more than 400 hours of Nickelodeon content, which is now available for Cosmote TV subscribers.

Wattpad

Online storytelling brand Wattpad has partnered with Singapore-based Mediacorp on a development partnership to bring user-generated stories from the region to streaming and free-to-air platforms.

The companies will adapt scripted series and films based on stories from Wattpad’s writers for Mediacorp’s digital video platform Toggle. In addition to sourcing existing ideas from Wattpad, both organizations will hold local contests for Singaporean writers to present new ideas that will be eligible for development.

This deal follows Wattpad striking a new first-look TV partnership with Sony Pictures Television for up-and-coming content on its online storytelling platform, last week.

USAopoly

Board game and puzzlemaker USAopoly has teamed up with Disney Consumer Products UK to develop new Star Warsthemed games for EMEA, starting with a light-strategy tabletop game. The agreement also grants USAopoly international rights to select current and future Disney licensed products developed by the game company.

The new products mark the first time USAopoly has worked with the Star Wars franchise. But, it has partnered with Disney on numerous products, including Codenames: Disney Family Edition and Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: A Gemstone Mining Game. And its Disney-licensed Thanos Rising/Avengers: Infinity War boardgame garnered a LIMA nomination in the toys/games/novelties/roleplay 13-plus category for the toyco, earlier this month.

Animasia

Malaysia’s Animasia Studio has shipped its animated series Chuck Chicken (pictured) to Portuguese kidsnet SIC K. The 52 x 11-minute show premiered earlier this month and joined the studio’s sport-focused Supa Strika‘s, on the channel.

Aimed at seven to 11s, the action/comedy/adventure show is set on an island where a chicken provides security for its citizens with his magical powers. The series streams on Netflix, was picked up by Apolo Films for distribution across Europe, and has two billion views on China’s online video platform iQiyi. A second season is in development and set to be released late 2020.
