Nickelodeon US has snapped up Power Rangers Beast Morphers (pictured), the latest season in the long-running Power Rangers franchise from the IP’s new owner Hasbro and its film label Allspark Pictures, and will debut the series on March 2.

Set in the future, the new action-adventure series assembles an all-new cast of Power Rangers who become the Beast Morphers alongside their Beast Bot sidekicks after a secret agency combines a newly discovered substance called Morph-X with animal DNA. The team’s mission this time is to fend off an evil sentient computer virus bent on claiming the source of the Rangers’ power.

Hasbro acquired the billion-dollar Power Rangers franchise, as well as additional Saban Brands properties, including My Pet Monster, Popples, Julius Jr., Luna Petunia and Treehouse Detectives, for approximately US$522 million in cash and stock last May. It recently tapped LA-based Kilburn Live to produce and tour a live stage show based on the Power Rangers brand across North America.

On the toy side, Hasbro introduced a new line of six-inch Power Rangers collectible figures called The Lightning Collection during New York Toy Fair over the weekend. Featuring iconic characters from the franchise spanning more than two decades, the line includes Mighty Morphin White Ranger, Dino Charge Red Ranger, Mighty Morphin Lord Zedd and Power Rangers S.P.D. Shadow Ranger. Priced at US$19.99 apiece, Hasbro’s White and Shadow Ranger figures, as well as Lord Zedd, will launch at retail this spring followed by Red Ranger in the fall.

The toyco has also unveiled Dance Moves Moxy!, the latest doll from its UglyDoll toy line. (California-based STX Entertainment appointed Hasbro as global master toy partner for the UglyDolls franchise last year.) The talking, singing, dancing toy features the voice of Grammy-winning singer Kelly Clarkson, who will portray the Moxy character in STXfilms’ upcoming UglyDolls animated feature, which premieres May 3.

In other Hasbro news, the toyco is partnering with digital studio Rooster Teeth on Transformers: War For Cybertron, a new original series for Netflix set to launch in 2020. Japan’s Polygon Pictures will handle the show’s animation production while Transformers vet FJ DeSanto (Transformers: Titans Return, Transformers: Power of the Primes) will serve as showrunner for the new origin story.
