Dav Pilkey, the creator of comedy-driven publishing IP Captain Underpants, has inked an agreement with licensing agent MerryMakers to build a consumer products program around his Dog Man children’s book series.

The six books in the two-year-old collection published by Scholastic imprint Graphix currently have more than 23 million copies in print. All six titles have had number-one debuts on the New York Times bestseller list.

MerryMakers is initially focused on signing licensees in games, figurines, apparel, accessories and bags, and negotiations are already underway. A first range of consumer products is expected to launch in fall 2019.

Dog Man stars a crime-fighting dog-human hybrid who cannot resist the urge to stop criminals.

For writer and illustrator Pilkey, this venture comes on the heels of the release of DreamWorks Animation film Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie in 2017, and Netflix’s animated series adaption of the movie The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants in 2018.
