Banijay Group’s Zodiak Kids division has appointed the UK’s 560 Media to exploit secondary rights for its catalogue by tracking and claiming payments for secondary royalties including retransmissions, educational off-air activities, recording levies and private-copy levies.
Zodiak Kids’ library includes series such as Tee and Mo, The Secret Life of Boys, Kody Kapow and Lilybuds (pictured). According to 560 Media, the secondary television rights market in the UK is worth approximately US$64 million each year.
This new partnership figures into a busy year for Zodiak Kids, which connected with Icelandic lifestyle brand Tulipop on a co-development and co-production deal for an animated TV series based on the property, as well as working with Fantawild to co-produce Tiger Team, based on the bestselling teen novels by Thomas Brezina.
Banijay’s distribution arm also inked a secondary rights management deal with 560 Media, which will manage the collection of Banijay Rights’ international revenue from secondary TV rights exploitation. The company’s client roster also includes ITV Studios Global Entertainment, BBC Worldwide, Discovery Communications and Wish Films.
