BBC Studios and MarcoPolo Learning are partnering on a new co-branded English-language educational app for China. Targeting kids ages three to eight,  MarcoPolo English+ will use artificial intelligence, augmented reality and voice recognition to integrate English lessons with other lessons on the STEM fields when it launches in Q4 2019.

The digital offering will combine live action footage from BBC Studios’ natural history unit and the extensive BBC library with MarcoPolo’s interactive English-language learning curriculum and original IP. Characters from the London-based edtech company’s animated series The Polos (pictured) will be interspersed throughout the app.

The Polos got off the ground last year when Toronto, Canada’s Boat Rocker Media teamed up with MarcoPolo to create a new original animated TV and digital series for preschoolers. Boat Rocker is handling global distribution.
