The global SVOD is diving into production on a new CG-animated feature film called Jacob and the Sea Beast, written and directed by Chris Williams (pictured), whose past credits include Disney’s Moana, Bolt, Big Hero 6, The Emperor’s New Groove, Mulan, Brother Bear and Frozen.
Marking Williams’s first project as a solo director, Jacob and the Sea Beast tells the epic story of a charming seafarer who sails into uncharted waters and discovers, what else—a sea monster. It’s expected to be released in 2022.
Netflix has been doubling down on its kids and family feature films of late, including announcing last week that it’s producing a CG-animated musical inspired by the life of Fugees singer Wyclef Jean. The streamer also recently teamed up with Guillermo del Toro for a new stop-motion musical take on Pinocchio that the Oscar-winning filmmaker will write, produce and direct.
