Viacom taps VP, GM of Digital Studios international

VIMN has upped Brendan Yam to lead the new unit focused on short-form content for its flagships brands, including Nickelodeon, outside of the US.

Viacom International Media Networks has appointed Brendan Yam as its new VP and GM of Viacom Digital Studios international, a unit that will be focused on creating, distributing and monetizing digital content for Viacom’s flagship brands,beyond the US. The new division will be making short-form, digital native content, doubling down on Viacom’s new strategy.

Yam previously served as VP of multiplatform for MTV and Comedy Central International, and head of business development for digital. Prior to that, he was VP of business development at MTV.

In his new role, Yam will be managing new business development and commercial opportunities for international short-form content including branded content and licensing deals, and content and platform partnerships. The new unit, meanwhile, will be creating original digital series, topicals, co-commissions and complementary shorts for VIMN, Buenos Aires-based channel Telefe and Brazilian YouTube channel Porta dos Fundos.

Viacom Digital Studios unveiled its first digital slate including four digital originals for Nickelodeon’s YouTube, at the company’s first-ever NewFront presentation in April. The company also recently acquired digital media company Awesomeness to bolster its burgeoning digital portfolio.

The division has been a big part of Viacom’s growth recently, with total video views and watch time increasing 112% and 104% year-over-year for the latest quarter.
