Sesame Workshop inks home entertainment deal

A multi-year agreement with Shout! Factory covers North American distribution rights to packaged media and video-on-demand.

Los Angeles-based Shout! Factory and Sesame Workshop have inked a distribution partnership for the Sesame Street home entertainment library. The multi-year alliance will make Shout! Factory the official distributor for Sesame Street in North America, covering packaged media, VOD and select digital rights for more than 150 active titles and programs.

Additionally, the agreement will see the multiplatform media company distribute a minimum of four new Sesame Street-themed titles for cross-platform (DVD, EST and CVOD) releases in the US and Canada each year. Shout! Factory will help develop the new titles, and the partnership is expected to extend the Sesame brand into the growing number of home entertainment distribution platforms.

The distribution deal follows shortly after the announcement that Sesame Workshop has partnered with Apple for a slate of children’s programs as part of the California tech giant’s first push into original video content for kids. The content will include a live-action series, an animated series, and a series based on puppets.
