Toronto, Canada-based toy and entertainment company Spin Master has acquired the rights to the collectible plush line Fuggler. The range is currently available through a number of specialty retailers as well as Target, GameStop and Hot Topic.
The Fuggler brand originated in the UK, and the collectible plush range includes 50 unique characters available in nine- or 12-inch sizes. Each character boasts realistic, human-like teeth and many have mismatched eyes. Rare characters, meanwhile, can be identified by their glow-in-the-dark teeth and eyes. Designed for kids ages four and up, the Fuggler range retails for US$14.99 to US$24.99.
Spin Master’s acquisition of the so-ugly-they’re-cute characters is part of its ongoing strategy to capitalize on emerging trends with cult followings. Spin Master recently partnered with dermatologist Sandra Lee—known as Dr. Pimple Popper—to launch its new game Pimple Pete, whose players take turns popping Pete’s pimples while trying not to erupt a “mega-zit.”
And earlier this year, the company capitalized on the rising trend of toilet humor when it expanded its collectibles offering with Flush Force, featuring 150 different creatures from Flushville. To reveal if a character is common, rare or ultra-rare, kids must fill the toilet’s tank with water, shake it up and peel away the seat cover.
