On the heels of being crowned Toy of the Year by the Toy Industry Association earlier this week, WowWee’s popular interactive Fingerlings collectibles are getting an animation treatment, thanks to Quebec-based Squeeze. The studio, which is behind 52 x one-minute 3D series Cracké, will create short-form Fingerlings episodes written and directed by Kevin Munroe (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ratchet & Clank), which will bow this spring on YouTube.
Russell Binder and Marc Mostman of Striker Entertainment (the global licensing agent for Fingerlings) will serve as executive producers.
WowWee, known for high-tech toys like AI robot CHiP, introduced its Fingerlings robotic animal characters last year. Initial Fingerlings sold more than 100,000 units in the US within a week of their August debut, and the collectibles became one of the top holiday toys in 2017, according to The NPD Group. Fingerlings have more than 40 different reactions that children can incite by doing things like petting them and blowing kisses.
