London-based Lupus Films has partnered with HarperCollins Children’s Books to adapt the picture book The Tiger Who Came to Tea for television.

The upcoming hand-drawn animated special will be produced by Lupus Films co-founders Camilla Deakin and Ruth Fielding (Ethel & Ernest, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt), along with Ann-Janine Murtagh, Katie Fulford and Mia Jupp at HarperCollins Children’s Books.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea–which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year–was inspired by author Judith Kerr’s daughter and has sold more than five million copies since it was first published in 1968.

Recently, Lupus Films saw success with Walker co-production  We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, which was commissioning broadcaster Channel 4’s most-watched program in 2016. The animated special was based on the classic children’s book by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury, and went on to spawn a consumer products program managed by Walker Books with partners like Aurora (plush), Channel 4 Gaming (games) and Paul Dennicci (apparel).
