Genius Brands readies Llama Llama Netflix premiere

The new series based on the popular book franchise will make its global debut on the SVOD on January 26.

Genius Brands International has announced that Llama Llama will make its global Netflix debut on January 26. The animated series is based on the New York Times Bestselling book franchise by Anna Dewdney that has sold 20 million units worldwide.

The 15 x half-hour series has been produced in 20 different languages and follows Llama and his Mama Llama (Jennifer Garner) as they interact in the world around them.

The toon is produced and developed by a well-known team of creators including Saul Blinkoff (Doc McStuffins, Barbie’s Dreamtopia, Winnie the Pooh), writer Joe Purdy (Arthur, Hey Arnold!), legendary Disney art director Ruben Aquino (Frozen, The Lion King), and producers Jane Startz (Ella Enchanted, Tuck Everlasting) and Andy Heyward (Inspector Gadget, The Real Ghostbusters). The author’s longtime partner, Reed Duncan, will also serve as producer.

The announcement of the series follows Genius Brands’ recent deals for Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab and SpacePOP with Da Vinci Learning, Azoomee and The American Forces Network. GBI also recently picked up eight classic DHX Media series for its newly launched Kid Genius Cartoons Plus! streaming service.
