Nickelodeon has partnered with Encantos Media Studios to develop the first consumer products inspired by Latino preschool property Canticos.
Canticos brings Spanish-language nursery rhymes to life through children’s books, interactive apps and sing-along videos. The property features nursery rhymes from around the world, including “Elefantitos,” “Mi Burrito Sabanero” and “Los Pollitos” (pictured).
The baby- and toddler-focused consumer products line will span a number of categories including toys, accessories, publishing and home. (Nick will seek promotional and consumer products partners for the program.)
The partnership will also see short-form Canticos content launch on Nick’s digital preschool platforms–including NickJr.com, the Nick Jr. app and Nick’s video subscription service Noggin–in spring 2018.
The Canticos portfolio of characters is created by Venezuelan-American artist Susie Jaramillo, who will also produce the upcoming short-form content alongside Nuria Santamaria Wolfe and Steven Wolfe Pereira, co-founders of Encantos Media Solutions.
The partnership follows Viacom’s announcement earlier this year of a five-point turnaround plan that puts six flagship brands–including Nickelodeon–front and center. Elements of the plan include a deepening of partnerships to drive digital revenue, growth of Viacom’s consumer products business and the creation of the company’s first-ever short-form content unit, which will feature both new original IP and existing programming.
