Sonar takes Watchdog to the small screen

The L.A.-based prodco has scooped up global rights to author Will McIntosh’s new sci-fi adventure book.

L.A.-based production and distribution company Sonar Entertainment is set to develop a new animated kids series based on Watchdog, the latest sci-fi adventure book from author Will McIntosh. (McIntosh’s previous novel, Defenders, was optioned by Warner Bros. for a feature film.)

Sonar has acquired global rights to the book and will create a new tween-skewing series alongside Art Brown and Douglas Sloan—the duo behind DreamWorks Animation’s Dragons: Race to The Edge. Brown and Sloan will serve as showrunners for the upcoming series, which will follow Vick, his autistic electronics whiz sister and their robotic Watchdog as they find an artificial intelligence microchip that turns their world upside down.

The Watchdog news comes as Sonar continues to ramp up its kids and family offerings, especially in the wake of its acquisition of Toronto and L.A.-based Tricon Films & Television earlier this year. As part of the sale of assets, Tricon’s former president and founder Andrea Gorfolova joined Sonar as president of Kids, Family and Factual at the prodco.
