Science and Star Wars bows on Facebook, Instagram

The digital-exclusive series for Gen Z and Millennials is DDN's second to launch after Club Mickey Mouse.

Disney Digital Network and Lucasfilm have launched the first episode of their digital series Science and Star Wars on the official Star Wars Facebook page, along with ancillary content from the show on the @StarWars Instagram account.

Hosted by Anthony Carboni from weekly web series The Star Wars Show, the brand-new 10-episode series examines the surprising, and not so surprising, links between real-world science and the iconic technology showcased in the Star Wars universe including lightsabers and Boba Fett’s jet pack.

Each episode features a rotating lineup of researchers, scientific experts and celebrity guests who take part in experiments and demonstrations in the show’s laboratory environment that explore science fantasy, science fact and the grey areas in between.

The premiere episode sees Carboni and Star Wars Rebels voice actor Taylor Gray analyze the mythology behind lightsabers and real-world science. Every episode of the series will be complemented by micro-content across Disney Digital Network, and new Facebook eps will launch on Tuesdays.

The STEM-based digital series follows the September 8 premiere of DDN’s first Facebook/Instagram-exclusive series, Club Mickey Mouse, which is developed and produced by the team behind DDN’s flagship editorial voice Oh My Disney.

With a successful Force Friday II in the books and the December 15 theatrical release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi fast approaching, Disney, Lucasfilm and their partners are continuing to punch the accelerator on all things Star Warsfrom consumer products to theme parks.

A Star Wars Droid Inventor Kit from littleBits, for one, recently made Walmart’s Top 25 Rated by Kids holiday toy list, while another techy toy, the Star Wars Force Link BB-8 Mega Playset, made Target’s 2017 Top Toy List.
