Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) and DC Entertainment, in partnership with Mattel, are encouraging girls to quite literally don their capes with a new social media campaign for the DC Super Hero Girls brand.
The Get Your Cape On campaign features a music video for the DC Super Hero Girls theme song featuring YouTube star Megan Nicole.
Nicole is featured on Billboard’s Social 50 chart, and has amassed more than four million YouTube subscribers and 820 million views. The music video, set to launch on September 8, will also star fans of the DC Super Hero Girls brand and will be available on the DC Super Hero Girls YouTube channel, on DCSuperHeroGirls.com and the DC Super Hero Girls app.
Through the campaign, WBCP, DC Entertainment and Mattel invite fans to share how they put their capes on in their everyday lives through Instagram, Twitter and Facebook using the hashtags #GetYourCapeOn and #DCSuperHeroGirls.
The social media campaign and music video are first in a number of upcoming DC Super Hero Girls initiatives, including an in-school program, a Halloween costume challenge and a community-driven outreach program that will inspire fans to team up and be heroes in their communities during the holiday season.
DC Super Hero Girls follows the female super heroes and villains of the DC universe during their high-school years. The brand first launched as direct-to-video movies and digital webisodes in 2015, and has leveraged its popularity online to bow a TV series (set to premiere on Cartoon Network next year) and a consumer product program. The brand’s product line includes toys, costumes, apparel, accessories, publishing and stationery.
