Discovery Kids Latin America has formed a strategic partnership with Cirque du Soleil Images to create a fictional live-action series that will be produced by Canadian prodco Apartment 11 in association with Canuck pubcaster TVO Kids.

The untitled series will be filmed in Montreal at the International Headquarters of Cirque du Soleil, with director and composer Cris Morena serving as executive producer and songwriter. Leila Basen (Heartland) is on board as head writer.

The English-language show follows a fictional boarding school that teaches kids to be circus performers as they develop friendships and deal with life’s difficulties. It will include the artistry, costuming and acrobatics that fans expect from live-circus performers. (Cirque du Soleil artists, craftsmen and creatives will be working on the series.)

Cirque du Soleil Images is no stranger to the kids space. The production division of the circus company is behind animated series Luna Petunia (together with Saban Brands), which bowed on Netflix last December.
