Spin Master is going the collectibles route with its hit toy property Hatchimals as the Canadian toymaker debuts its new Colleggtibles line at retail.
Hatchimals–toy eggs that hatch to reveal their inner colorful creatures–debuted in October and went on to be the hit toy of the holiday season. Hatchimals Colleggtibles come in small, speckled eggs, and just like the original toys, need help to hatch. Kids rub the purple heart on the egg until it turns pink, and then press down on the heart to crack the egg and discover the small collectible figure inside.
The first series of Hatchimals Colleggtibles features more than 70 figures, each belonging to one of 13 families. The colorful speckles on each egg indicate its origin, though the identity of the Colleggtible won’t be revealed until the egg is opened. The line also includes special and limited-edition figures.
Aimed at kids ages five and up, these figures are available in 1 Pack (US$2.99), 2 Pack + Nest (US$4.99) and 4 Pack + Bonus Character (US$9.99) formats.
In February, Penguin Random House Children’s UK picked up world publishing rights (excluding North America) for the Hatchimals property. Spin Master is also set to expand the brand into additional categories this year, including apparel, beauty, food and health, home and stationery. Altogether, the toyco reports that more than 25 new licensing partners have signed on with Hatchimals to date.
