Descendants 2 to bow on five Disney nets at once

In an unprecedented move for the House of Mouse, the original movie will premiere simultaneously on Disney Channel, ABC, Disney XD, Freeform and Lifetime on July 21.

The sequel to Disney Channel’s record-breaking original movie¬†Descendants is set to premiere on five television networks within the Disney/ABC Television group on July 21 at 8:00 p.m.

In an unprecedented move for the House of Mouse, Descendants 2 will bow simultaneously on Disney Channel, ABC, Disney XD, Freeform and Lifetime. A live feed of the movie will also extend across Disney’s branded digital and on-demand platforms via the Disney Channel, ABC, Freeform and Lifetime apps on July 21 at 10:00 p.m.

For VOD, Descendants 2 will reach Disney Channel, ABC, Freeform and Lifetime beginning July 22.

To support the movie, Descendants 2¬†actors Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Sofia Carson and Booboo Stewart will appear this weekend at the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards to introduce the exclusive world premiere of music video “Ways to Be Wicked.”

The new movie extends the story of the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains. In 2015, Descendants became the fifth most-watched movie in cable TV history with 12.2 million total viewers. To date, the original has reached more than 100 million total viewers worldwide. And across Disney’s YouTube channels, the brand’s content has generated more than one billion views.

In licensing and merchandising, more than 2.6 million books have been sold, and more sales are expected with the May 23 debut of new YA novel Rise of the Isle of the Lost: A Descendants Novel by Melissa de la Cruz. A Descendants 2 product line for tweens from Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media is also launching this summer featuring villain-inspired styles across apparel, accessories, arts and activities, dolls and consumer electronics.
