Disney Channel GSA has picked up Italian prodco Rainbow’s first live-action production, Maggie & Bianca: Fashion Friends. The tween-targeted series will air in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on Disney Channel.
The series follows an American girl who dreams of becoming a world-famous fashion designer and her friend Bianca, a self-proclaimed Italian “princess.” It debuted last August in Italy on RAI Gulp and has since been picked up by Netflix globally, as well as Gulli (France), Karousel (Russia) and TV Cultura (Brazil).
The show is also delving into licensing. Simba Dickie is on-board as pan-European master toy partner and will be producing a Maggie & Bianca toy range for Europ. A book series is also in the works from Italian publisher Mondadori Libri.
