Nickelodeon ups Shelly Sumpter Gillyard

The 19-year Nickelodeon casting exec has moved up the ranks to EVP of talent, music and events.

Nickelodeon vet Shelly Sumpter Gillyard has been promoted to EVP of talent, music and events at the kidsnet.

Gillyard will oversee talent relations for any live-TV events, music and live-action programming for all of the Nickelodeon brands. She will also manage casting for live-action and animated properties.

Based in Burbank, the former SVP of talent will continue to report to Nickelodeon Group president Cyma Zarghami.

Gillyard most recently worked on the Kids’ Choice Awards, Kids’ Choice Sports and Nickelodeon HALO Awards, and has brought on Blake Shelton, Justin Timberlake, Nick Jonas, Will Smith and more to host past Kids’ Choice Awards. She also tapped Michael Strahan to be an executive producer on Kids’ Choice Sports.

On the development side, Sumpter Gillyard also brought in the talent for Henry Danger, Game Shakers, The Thundermans and Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. (She is responsible for casting Emma Stone on iCarly, Russell Westbrook on Henry Danger and Olympic Gold Medal soccer player-Alex Morgan on Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn.)

Prior to joining Nickelodeon in 1997, Gillyard  she was the director of publicity for the Steven Rifkind Company. Prior to that, she was an account executive at Cathcart Public Relations, working with MCA, Virgin and Nickelodeon.
