DHX Media’s multiplatform kids network WildBrain is set to manage the Madballs YouTube channel, American Greetings Entertainment’s gross-out brand from the 80s that’s staging a retail comeback.

WildBrain will launch the Madballs YouTube channel on March 1 with new animated shorts produced by Oddbot Studios, American Greetings and Just Play. The toons will feature the brand’s six core charactersSkull Face, Oculus, Screamin’ Meemie, Dust Brain, Horn Head and Slobulus. (The Madballs brand was originally introduced in 1986 by American Greetings subsidiary AmToy.)

The new YouTube channel will also feature additional live-action and stop-motion content from WildBrain.

A number of new Madballs products from master toy partner Just Play will launch at major US retailers in time with the YouTube channel’s debut. Collectible foam balls and blind bags are currently available, and more products featuring 30 new characters will bow throughout the year.

The partnership with AGE is the most recent in a slew of deals for WildBrain, which has been expanding quickly. The network features more than 20,000 videos across more than 350 kids entertainment channels and includes third-party brands like Strawberry Shortcake and Bob the Builder, as well as DHX properties like Teletubbies and Yo Gabba Gabba!

So far this year, WildBrain has signed on to manage YouTube channels for Moose Toys and Turner Kids, and hired Will Mahmood as head of strategy to manage digital viewing data and business strategies.
