Shaw Rocket Prize opens for public voting

The Shaw Rocket Fund has opened the 2016 Shaw Rocket Prize for public voting. The annual award is given to kids programming that offer the best viewing experience for Canadian children and youth.

Nine finalists have been selected in three categories by an international jury. The winners, as voted by Canadian kids, will receive a US$32,989 (CDN$50,000) grant and will be announced at a gala event in Ottawa on November 23.

Kids across the country can vote for their favorite Canadian-produced children’s programs. Those voting will be entered to win one of four prize packs, which include a trip for two to Ottawa, an iPad mini and a US$3,302 scholarship. Three additional scholarships are also available to be won via an online vote.

Children 17 and under can vote by visiting rocketprizekids.ca and submitting a video explaining why they chose their favorite shows. The finalists in each category are:

Through the Rocket Prize, the Shaw Rocket Fund hands out US$99,076 annually in honor of the best Canadian kids television program and related digital content. Since its inception, the Shaw Rocket Fund has invested US$167 million in Canadian children’s programming. Previous winners include Degrassi: The Next Generation, The Next Step, Life With Derek and Justin Time.
