L.A.-based cloud rendering company OTOY is partnering with Mattel to kick off a virtual reality Batman experience. The content will be based on Warner Bros. Animation’s Batman: The Animated Series and will launch worldwide on Mattel’s View-Master platform this fall.

Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros’ digital studio Blue Ribbon Content are collaborating with OTOY and Mattel to bring the original episodic content to the View-Master VR Viewer, which will be powered by OTOY’s cinematic rendering technology.

This new virtual reality Batman experience is created using OTOY’s OctaneRender 3 software and displayed on Mattel’s View-Master using ORBX media library for the Unity Engine. The project was previewed at San Diego Comic-Con.

Batman: The Animated Series producer and director Bruce Timm, along with writer and producer Paul Dini, collaborated with OTOY on the project to ensure the immersion and interactivity was in tune with the series’ content. Original voice cast Kevin Conroy (Batman), Mark Hamill (Joker), Loren Lester (Robin) and Tara Strong (Batgirl) reprised their roles for the project.
