Welcome to Monster High, a 70-minute feature film from Mattel’s Playground Productions and Scottish animation studio Flaunt, is hitting the big screen in select cinemas worldwide.
The movie, which marks Flaunt’s first feature-length project, is a reboot of the Monster High franchise.
Welcome to Monster High tells the story of the school’s origins, and updates the look of the brand for a fresh interpretation of the toy line. Fan-favorites like Draculaura, Frankie Stein, Clawdeen and Lagoona are featured in the movie, along with a number of new characters.
Originally planned for DVD release, the film premiered in select global theaters on August 27. To mark the event, the brand partnered with Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation to host an exclusive behind-the-scenes look and a “Dance the Fright Away” pre-show that featured a dance tutorial by YouTube star choreographer Matt Steffanina.
DVD release dates for the film have yet to be announced, though Flaunt’s work on a second Monster High feature is currently underway, with a planned release for spring 2017.
Flaunt has created content for features, series, games and commercials as part of the Axis Productions group. Recent projects include design for Amazon Studio’s Lost in Oz and animation for BBC series Dixi.
Monster High continues to be a big seller for Mattel, and is one of the top-three bestsellers in the fashion doll category, along with Barbie and Disney’s Frozen.
