ITV Studios Global Entertainment is launching merchandise programs for its revamped CGI/live action series Thunderbirds Are Go in France, the Nordics and Benelux.
With Vivid Imaginations on-board as master toy licensee, playthings are slated to hit retail beginning next month. Lead toy items, which include the Tracy Island interactive playset, the supersize Thunderbird 2 playset and the Tracy brother action figures, will be the first to hit these new markets.
In France, Vivid’s toys will be accompanied by back-to-school catalog offers at Toys “R” Us, along with website banners and a gift-with-purchase promotion for the Christmas period. French toy retailer La Grande Récré will also run an exclusive gift-with-purchase offer for the toy line in October and November, and will host Thunderbirds Are Go content on its website.
ITVS GE is also collaborating with French agent Nelvana to develop a full line-up of merchandise, and Hachette Livre has been tapped as master publisher. A Thunderbirds Are Go storybook will launch as part of Hachette Livre’s Biblioteque Verte collection in fall 2016. And back-to-school products, stationery and bags will debut from Kid’Abord in 2017.
In Benelux, Spin Master is launching its Air Hoggs collection next month. Meis & Maas, meanwhile, has signed on as master publishing partner and will launch a range of books and magazine formats for the brand in 2017. Additionally, Jacob is creating a range of boys’ bags inspired by the show, and a second-edition DVD from home entertainment partner Just Entertainment will hit shelves in September.
TOPTOY is Vivid’s distributor in the Nordics and will roll out products starting late summer at BR Toys and Toys “R” Us. ITVS GE is also working with licensing agent Alicom to sign local partners across publishing, apparel, accessories and homewares for the region.
Altogether, ITVS GE has sold Thunderbirds Are Go in more than 40 markets across Europe, Japan, the US, Canada, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. The TV distribution and consumer products business has signed 80-plus licensees for the brand internationally. The 26 x 22-minute show’s second season will debut later this year and the third season is being readied for a 2017 launch.
